One Buddha-name, a moment of stillness

Recitation Counting

Tap the beads on screen to count — one tap, one recitation, like turning a mala. Gentle haptics and a wooden-fish sound help settle body and mind.

Chant Along with a Master

Play a master's recording and chant along — each round is counted automatically. Multiple chanting speeds, at your own pace.

Listen

When you simply want to listen, turn on Listen mode. Hours of uninterrupted Buddha-name chanting — no counting, no distractions.

Merit Dedication

After chanting, dedicate the merit to the people and causes on your heart. Write down the count and your wish — may this merit extend equally to all.

Practice Statistics

Daily counts, practice time, and streaks are recorded automatically, so your diligence is plain to see — and your daily practice easier to sustain.

Chanting Achievements

Accumulate recitations to earn merit ranks, keep streaks to earn perseverance ranks, and unlock special badges like Morning Bell, Evening Drum, and First Dedication. Your practice leaves a visible trail.

Daily Reminder

Set a daily chanting reminder that gently tells you "Time to chant — may body and mind be at peace," weaving the Buddha-name into everyday life.

iCloud Sync

Your chanting records sync safely with iCloud — never lost when you switch phones or reinstall, your daily practice continuing across devices.

What you might want to know about Mituoji

What is Mituoji?

Mituoji is a non-profit iOS app for Pure Land Buddha-name recitation, with a bead counter, chanting along with a master's recording, a listen-only mode, merit dedication, practice statistics, and iCloud sync. Quiet and unadorned — no ads, no in-app purchases, no sign-up — simply to keep you company as you recite "Namo Amitabha."

Is Mituoji free? Any ads?

It's free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. Mituoji is a non-profit iOS app for Pure Land recitation; every feature is free, with no pop-ups or interruptions.

How does Mituoji count recitations?

On the Chant screen, tap the on-screen beads — each tap counts one recitation, with gentle haptics and a wooden-fish sound. You can also play a recording in Chant Along and follow it; each round is counted automatically.

What's the difference between Listen and Chant Along?

Chant Along counts automatically as you follow the recording — good for set practice sessions. Listen simply plays the Buddha-name for long stretches without counting or interruption — while working, walking, or falling asleep.

Will I lose my records if I change phones?

No. As long as both devices are signed in to the same Apple account with iCloud enabled, your chanting and dedication records sync automatically and survive switching phones or reinstalling.

What if my records haven't synced?

Check, in order: both devices use the same Apple account, iCloud is enabled for Mituoji in system Settings, and the device is online. iCloud is scheduled by the system and can lag a few minutes; switching the app to the background and back usually triggers a sync.

What if the daily reminder doesn't fire?

Make sure notifications are allowed in Settings → Notifications → Mituoji, and check whether a Focus or Do Not Disturb mode is on — either will silence reminders.

Are my chanting records uploaded to a server?

No. The developer runs no servers and collects no personal data. Your chanting and dedication records exist only on your phone and in your own iCloud — no account needed.
